It's a schecter Strat copy, bought in 1990 (not bought new) unsure of age 'Apparently' it was hand made in the USA, so says the sticker that's still on the back 26 years later It's in candy apple red, absolutely stunning birdseye maple neck in satin finish, ebony fretboard, 'schecter deluxe' tuners, push/pull tone pot that i think is coil tapping? Sounds and playability is phenomenal acoustically and amplified, and i think it's rather special, not just another bog standard strat copy here are some pictures. I assume the serial number is 0031? If somebody could tell me anything about it i would be fascinated! I did look at the dropbox here - I'm somewhat familiar with Schecters, but this one is kind of a puzzle. Have you taken it apart to see if there are any stamps or dates? If it does actually date to 1990 that would be early in the tenure of current ownership - the current owners took over circa 1988 and moved the company back to California shortly after they purchased the company. It had moved to Dallas in 1984 - after the financial backers had forced Dave Schecter out. Tom Anderson then left the firm as he did not want to relocate to Texas.

Yes there are those differences. Knopfler's had no fret markers, toggles switches, no tremolo, no skunk stripe ( from memory). I and a friend had Shecter Telecaster copies. I think the pickups are Seymour Duncan. I'd contact Shecter and see what response they can give you.

I think they were so good that Fender made them stop model copies. I also had an 80's Strat by 'Profile'. They were made by Fuji Genkakki in Japan and Fender Japan models were made in the same factory. Profile were limited in numbers too.

The GOOD copies of the 80'ws were so good Fender were losing sales ( several companies we all could name-all made in that factory). Bottom line- keep the guitar and enjoy- do not sell it. By the time they moved to Dallas the focus was on fully-assembled guitars with parts on the side; in Van Nuys it was probably 60% parts/40% fully assembled guitars. 'Dream Machine' was the name they used for custom built guitars in both Van Nuys and in Dallas - but that was applied to both the Strat and Tele style models. When they moved into more of a production-line company they had guitars with set specs, and at that time they started using the name 'Mercury' on the Strat models and the name 'Saturn' on the Townshend-style Tele models.

They had other names like 'Strategy', 'Genesis', and 'Profile' that were used on the imported models. Also, according to Tom Anderson in the Dallas era the guitars could be a mix of USA and MIJ parts. Later during the Dallas era they also got parts from LaSiDo in Canada (the parent company of Godin and Seagull). I saw an old thread on harmoney central about a guy asking for the value on old schecter strats. A fellow called Stefan chimed in with some good info.
