When TomTom launched its LIVE services, this was a premium feature only available in its top-of-the-range GO models. But in the last year or so they have filtered down to the and recent. In fact, if you take a look at, it’s now absolutely enormous, with more than half LIVE-enabled. The GO LIVE 825 is the first step towards TomTom rationalising its selection to connected GO LIVE models and non-connected Starts, the new members of which we will be looking at in a future week, although for now the range is still larger than the largest thing in largetown.
The and remain the flagship members of the GO LIVE range. So the GO LIVE 825 is the new midrange offering, and uses the same integrated mount as the Via range, which means you need to attach it to your screen every time you use it. However, this also folds quite flush with the unit, so it still fits in a pocket. Lots of people remove their sat-nav mount from their car after every usage anyway, in case its presence encourages a break in.
So this isn’t necessarily as big a drawback as it at first seems. The car power adapter is also TomTom’s latest two-part affair, with a USB cable connecting to a cigarette lighter plug. So the same cable will be used for hooking up to PC as well as in-vehicle power. Of course, the jewel in the 825’s crown is its LIVE system.
Surprisingly, this hasn’t changed considerably since its arrival in the GO 740 LIVE. The headline act remains HD Traffic, which is still unquestionably the best jam-detection system on the market. This augments traditional RDS-TMC information with data gleaned from Vodafone mobile phone triangulation and TomTom LIVE devices, providing a much more accurate and detailed picture of real-time traffic flow. It’s not an infallible system, but it’s currently the most effective way to avoid being stuck in gridlock.
I just received a new TomTom Go1000. It looked very promising in the box but then I connected it to my PC.
It updated OK but it no longer appears as a drive on my PC like the previous models. I understand none of the new TomToms do. This of course prevents users from transferring personal 'Favourites' data, car symbols, sounds, etc and particularly saving the contents of the disk since there is no longer a way to make a back-up of the device. Is there a way of making the invisible visible?
What is TomTom hiding? The reason why all of the new TomToms since September 2010 (such as the GO1000 range and all VIA models) do not show up as a drive on the computer is because they are using the Linux based file systems instead of FAT/FAT32. This wasn't a choice by TomTom to make it harder for us to copy or crack their devices. Hindi movie double dhamaal mp3 free download. This was done because Microsoft successfully sued TomTom for using the Microsoft FAT and FAT32 file systems on a Linux platform, which Microsoft claimed it was an infringement.
Therefore TomTom were forced to use another file system other that a Windows based one. TomToms run on Linux anyway, so the choice to use Linux file systems do make the devices run faster than ever before, as their file systems are generally more reliable and capable than the older FAT/FAT32. This is a positive for customers, but it's a negative for us who want to update our new TomToms by sharing files with each other, as we do on here and other forums. The only way to currently update the new TomToms is to use their program called 'MyTomTom,' although you have to pay for updating most things like new maps and safety cameras. So far, nobody has been successful in trying to 'crack' this new system, or rather make it possible for us to update the new TomToms using Windows Explorer. One must wonder though.
How hard can it really be?? Is there a list of current devices that are still on sale that can be updated?I can give you a general list of which models to avoid.
