Final Report Evaluation of I-Pave Low Volume Road Design Software May 2015 Michael I Darter, William R. From MEPDG study by Ceylan et al.
AASHTOWare Pavement ME Design is the next generation of pavement design software, which builds upon the National Cooperative Highway Research Program mechanistic-empirical pavement design guide. State-of-the-art procedures incorporated in the software reflect eight years of research and development involving both AASHTO members and the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP). The research and development process and resulting software beautifully illustrate the power and effectiveness of the cooperative development practice behind all AASHTOWare products. Continuous improvement of pavement process continues under NCHRP, the Federal Highway Administration and state agencies. Pavement ME Design represents a quantum leap forward from previous processes. Engineers can now precisely predict pavement performance because the software incorporates material mechanics, climate data, axle-load spectra and other advances. Why is an eBook better than a PDF? A PDF is a digital representation of the print book, so while it can be loaded into most e-reader programs, it doesn't allow for resizable text or advanced, interactive functionality. The eBook is optimized for e-reader devices and apps, which means that it offers a much better digital reading experience than a PDF, including resizable text and interactive features (when available). Where do I get eBook files?
EBook files are now available for a large number of reports on the NAP.edu website. If an eBook is available, you'll see the option to purchase it on the book page. TRB’s National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Synthesis 457: Implementation of the AASHTO Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide and Software documents the experience of transportation agencies in the implementation of the 2008 American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide: A Manual of Practice (MEPDG) and the 2011 software program, AASHTOWare Pavement ME DesignTM (formerly DARWin-ME).
The MEPDG and accompanying software are based on mechanistic-empirical (ME) principles and are a significant departure from the previous empirically based AASHTO pavement design procedures.
